Karl-Johan - Dry and sensitive skin affects your whole life

Article in Året Runt:

After several years of painful skin problems, Karl-Johan tried a cortisone-free treatment that saved him. Now he can enjoy the summer without itchy and tight rashes.

It's probably just an insect bite, thought Karl-Johan Olsson, 58, when he discovered a red rash on his leg one day. And that was a logical assumption, considering that he works clearing brush in the forest.

The rash was about the size of a five-krona coin, and I thought it was probably a tick bite. But when more rashes appeared on my arms and back and started to itch like crazy, I realized something was wrong. He decided to seek help.

It wasn't a pleasant diagnosis to receive. We had suspected it, as it runs in the family, and I know it's a lifelong condition.

After the diagnosis, Karl-Johan's condition quickly worsened. His skin could itch, sting, and burn around the clock. At times, his entire scalp was covered with a rash that was tight and flaky. Last fall, the attacks became more severe and his sleep suffered.

Both my wife and I slept poorly and woke up because I was scratching until I bled. I became tired, felt unwell, and lost my energy.

He tried a number of different preparations and cortisone treatments prescribed by doctors, but experienced no relief.
I was given several types of cortisone ointments that did not help at all. In addition, they cause side effects and make the skin thin and fragile.

"My life has really changed. The best thing is that I no longer have to walk around feeling itchy and tight skin. I am happier and sleep better."

- Karl-Johan
